Must-eat items at the 2015 Food and Wine Festival
The 20th Epcot Food and Wine Festival is in full swing and we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of our favorite event by bringing you a list of some of the best eats and drinks at the Festival. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it! This year there are more than thirty Marketplace Booths at the Food and Wine Festival. The Dominican Republic has returned to the Festival after a lengthy hiatus, and several new booths have joined the party! New this year are two booths inspired by the ABC daytime cooking show, The Chew. Sustainable Chew and the Chew Lab are located in Future World - another first for the Festival! Also located in Future World are two additional new Marketplace booths - the Wine Studio and the Cheese Studio. These two booths celebrate the pairing of wine and cheese and, as a fun bonus, items are served on artist palettes! We spent some time eating and drinking our way through the Festival so we can share a few of our favorite, must-try items with you! Chicken Sausage at the Canada Marketplace We love visiting the Canada Booth every year for the Le Cellier Beef Filet and Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, but this year we're loving the Chicken Sausage with Creamy Polenta and Minus 8 Onion Jam. The dish is sweet and savory with just the right amount of heat, and we're thrilled to see it return to the festival this year! Ice Pop Pomme at the France Marketplace In France they're serving up a new twist on escargot: the Croissant aux escargots with garlic and parsley. But this year one of our favorite items is the Ice Pop Pomme! This is really a push-pop for grownups made with a frozen blend of apple syrup, vodka, and St. Germain liqueur -- perfect for those hot, Florida autumn days during the Festival. We also loved the Creme Brûlée Vanilla Chocolate! The texture is spot on, and the flavor is out of this world. Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle at the Chew Lab The Chew Lab is new to the Festival this year and the booth is focused on the intersection of food science and the latest culinary trends, offering the chance to try some really fun and unique food, both in presentation and taste. If there is one must-have item from the Chew Lab it has to be the Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey Caramel! The portion at the Festival was also big enough to share - not that you'll want to! Souffle de Yuca at the Dominican Republic Marketplace We are so excited to see the Dominican Republic return to the Festival after a hiatus since 2007. The big surprise this year is the Souffle de Yuca. The best part of this yuca soufflé is the griddled cheese served right on top. (You can never go wrong with seared cheese!) Vegan Barbecue at the South Korea Marketplace South Korea surprised us this year with its Vegan Korean Barbecue! The vegan "meatball" was delicious, served over steamed rice with cucumber kimchi. Vegan or not, you'll love this dish! Buttered Chicken at the Africa Marketplace We were so excited to see Buttered Chicken with Micro Cilantro and Naan Bread on the menu at the Africa Marketplace this year, and it lived up to our expectations. While we loved it, it is heavy on the curry, so be warned if you aren't a curry fan. The only downfall for this dish on the day we sampled it was that the Naan bread was stale - we're hoping they remedy that soon. Loaded Mac and Cheese at the Farm Fresh Marketplace Last year, Farm Fresh was a winner in our book and this year it's home to one of our new Festival favorites - the Loaded Mac and Cheese with Nueske’s Pepper Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Peppers, and Green Onions! It's decadent and delicious (and the returning Griddled Yard Bird remains a must-have this year, too). You don't want to miss the Farm Fresh Marketplace! The Frozen Chew-tini at Sustainable Chew The Frozen Chew-tini from the Sustainable Chew Marketplace tops the list for one of our favorite beverages at this year's Festival! The drink is made with combination of Crop Organic Meyer Lemon Vodka, V-8 Carrot Mango Juice, and Citrus Sour Mix. It goes down very smooth, so be careful! ;) These are just a few of our favorite, must-have items from this year's Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Be sure to check out photos of every item at each Marketplace Booth prior to your visit, to be better prepared to pick everything you'd like to try. We're sure you'll find some new favorites to add to your list this year.
